In the 90’s, Blind Man’s Sun made a name for itself as one of the most pioneering, adventurous, and downright fun bands to come out of the jam band scene. They successfully combined the theatricality of Queen, the “jamminess” of Phish, and the raw power of Led Zeppelin with the sophistication of classical and jazz composers to create something entirely new. Each member was captivating in his own right, but together the synergy was explosive. The band truly embodied the adage, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

During their tenure, BMS sold somewhere in the vicinity of 10,000 albums, played roughly 600 shows, and thrilled audiences wherever they went. They shared stages with headliners such as The Roots, Los Lobos, Luscious Jackson, Maceo Parker (James Brown) John Scofield (jazz great), and The Samples. They also regularly played with jambands such as moe., Deep Banana Blackout, String Cheese Incident, and the Disco Biscuits. Throughout this period, Blind Man’s Sun were regular headliners in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and DC. However, as with many bands, the toll of the road and financial insecurities caused the band to call it quits just prior to 2000.

Fast forward 25 years…

Most of the band had lost communication over the years. It was really the desire of the fans that brought them back together. They were almost literally begging for a reunion. One fan in particular, Jeff Miller, a Los Angeles based musician and lifestyle writer, was having his annual City Stock Festival in Encino California in October, 2024. He asked the band to headline that festival, and the reunion was off and running.

With music as adventurous and pioneering as Blind Man’s Sun’s, the real question was could they still do it. Well… the general consensus was that somehow they got better.

The truth is everyone in the band is a music addict. Since their time together, every single member has been an active, successful musician in his own right. There are composers, performers, recording engineers, music professors and teachers, and music inventors among them; hell, there are even three Grammy nominations. If any one of the members had hung it up musically, there is simply no way that the reunion could have happened.

And that reunion in Encino was pure magic. Not only was the music epic and well-executed, but the love and respect that the band felt for each other was palpable. Each member was smiling ear to ear watching each other shine. Perhaps even more notable than re-engaging their old fans was the fact that people who had never seen them were blown away.

Building on that success, the band put together another east coast reunion show in December at Brooklyn Made in Brooklyn, NY. And once again they delivered. New and old fans alike came out in droves and sang along to their favorite BMS jams; yet another magical evening.

Now in 2025, the band is hungry to keep the momentum going and bring their music to a new generation of hungry music fans. Spring and summer shows are in the works, as are new recordings. Come out and see Blind Man’s Sun rise again. You will not be disappointed.
